1. Therapy with individuals and families
When accessing individual counselling at Sea Glass Sydney, you can be assured of having a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and coping mechanisms connected to experiences of violence, abuse and neglect. I know that every person has unique needs, so I take time to understand the impacts of trauma and abuse on your life, and what has led you to seek support at this time.
I can provide support to individuals who are the primary victims of violence and abuse, or their supporters (parents/partners/siblings). I have worked with victim/survivors of intrafamilial child sexual abuse, including sibling sexual abuse, victim/survivors of sexual violence perpetrated in institutions, and with people who have been sexually assaulted by acquaintances/strangers. I am skilled in working with people who have experienced intimate partner sexual violence. I have training and experience providing counselling and intervention with children under 10 with problematic and harmful sexualised behaviour. I have both current and past experience of supporting victim/survivors involved in high profile court and media matters.
I draw on a range of theories and modalities, including:
-
Trauma theory
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and trauma focused CBT
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
-
Somatic approaches
-
Psychodynamic theory
-
Developmental theories
-
Solution focused approaches
-
Strengths based approaches
-
Feminist theories and Intersectionality
-
Narrative therapy
-
Systems and Family Systems theories.
My approach honours the dignity and resilience of each of my clients that I see. I do not foster dependency in my clients but instead recognise and celebrate your strengths and expertise, and seek to empower you to create positive change in your life.
Counselling for individuals is offered online and by request at Ashfield, NSW, with plans to expand my face-to-face counselling services to another site in Northern Sydney.
I am an approved counsellor with the NSW Victims Support Scheme - https://www.nsw.gov.au/legal-and-justice/information-for-victims-of-crime/victims-support-scheme/counselling
